The Pruning

Pruning is the most effective technique to regulate and guide production both in a productive and qualitative sense. The main objectives are to give the plant a shape and keep it over time, to make production constant while protecting the production potential and to obtain quality production. For a good pruning it is necessary to take into account the phase of the plant's life cycle (young plant, with increasing productivity, constant productivity, old age) and adapt to the phenological conditions that are repeated every year (classic pruning is carried out during the winter and summer rest. ). The main one among the pruning of the vine is called dry pruning and it is done in winter which is the right time to prune. Identifying the right time interval depends on the geographical location and the type of grape variety, but is usually between the beginning of December and the first days of March. In addition to dry pruning, there are further green or summer pruning operations carried out during the growing season. It is then possible to classify pruning that of breeding, which is done in the first years after planting, and of production. The breeding pruning is used to set the "shape", that is the growth structure and the training system that you want to give to the vineyard. The chosen shape is then maintained with the production pruning.
